On January 6, 2022, Walter Eugene Griffin, Sr., was called home at the age of 78. He was born on March 15, 1943 to the late Jessie Lee Griffin and Mary Elizabeth Rice.
At an early age, he met Jo Ann Davis where they fell in love and got married on September 10, 1962. With this union , they had 4 children; Walter, Joanne, Cheryl and Darryl. With much more love to give, they adopted 2 girls named Lisa and Teresa.
Although he only made it ti the 9th grade, Walter was a very smart and proud man. He ended up being the assistant manager at Pacesetter Steel which gives our family proof that all things are possible. He later retired and started working at Great South where he retired there as well when his loving wife became ill. Walter's main goal in life was serving God and being a provider for his family. I can only remember him going on one vacation which was a cruise that they both went on. His past time was sitting on the porch listening to gospel music or oldies with his brother Tommy on a Saturday morning and watching western shows. At times, he would catch you off guard by standing up in church to serenade the love of his life through song for their anniversary and cutting the rug at the house.
He was a faithful member of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he also served as a choir member in the male chorus. Other times , he sat in the location of the church that we call "the Davis" section enjoying the service surrounded by his family.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Griffin and daughter Teresa Griffin. He leaves to cherish his memories; siblings, Tommy Lee Griffin, Guy Austin, and Tim Houston; children, Walter, Joanne, Darryl (Tonya), Cheryl and Lisa; grandchildren, KaTisha, LaCresha, Ramone, Tanecia (Antoine), Chantelle, Chayna, Trey (Elaine), Brandon (Jasmine), Lindsey, Jamal and Kira ; along with 15 great grandchildren., other relatives and friends.
