“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4 (KJV)

Wednesday afternoon, November 1, 2023, God in His infinite wisdom saw fit to call home a loving and devoted father, a wonderful brother, a cool granddaddy, a great friend, and a child of God, Wayne Varone Wheeler.

Wayne was born on August 25, 1952 to the late Ruth L. Wheeler and John W. Davis. He was educated in the Bartow County School System. He attended Summer Hill High School until integration. He was then transferred to Cartersville High School and graduated in the Class of 1970. Wayne furthered his education at Brown’s Barber College in Atlanta, Georgia. He became one of Summer Hill’s legendary Master Barbers, working tireless hours at the Wheeler/Morris Shopping Center. He continued to cut hair until his health began to fail him.

He was a dedicated employee of Union Carbide/ First Brands until his retirement.

Wayne was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang with the Male Chorus. He later moved his membership to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Wayne enjoyed swimming, singing, dancing and watching sports. He was a dire hard Falcons fan. He loved spending time with family and friends telling “stories” and making the room laugh. Wayne believed in looking your best at all times. He was an immaculate dresser, and never left the house without looking like he just step out of a GQ Magazine.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth L. Wheeler and John W. Davis.

Wayne leaves to cherish his loving memories, wife, Gwendolyn Wheeler; two loving daughters, Monica Wheeler Moore (Marcus) and Tamatha Wheeler Blair (Mondreco); grandchildren, Byron, Kaelyn, Marshanna, India, Ashton and D.J.; great granddaughter, Janiah; a caring and devoted sister, Myra Livsey (Duncan); one very special niece, who he loved like his own, Jessica; a very special uncle, James (Buck) Wheeler; special friends, Samuel Kincaid and Robert Lee Cooley (Wolf); and a host of other relatives and friends.
