William Horace Garnigan, Jr, fondly known as “Butch” passed away on April 25 2026, after a brief illness. Butch was born January 3, 1944, the oldest child born to the late William Horace Garnigan, Sr and the late Julia Hattie Davis Garnigan.

As a proud “Blue Devil”, Butch attended Summer Hill High School where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. He graduated from Summer Hill School as a member of the Class of 1963. Upon graduation, Butch entered the workforce working for the Bartow County Forestry Commission, Union Carbide, Georgia Power and Lockheed Martin, where he worked for 30 years until retiring.

Butch accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend R.R. Freeman. Later in life, he united with the Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Eugene H Mitchell. He was a faithful member of Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, Trustee Board, as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the E.H. Mitchell Choir, Male Chorus and Sunday School. Butch was also a member of Boy Scouts Troop #80, the Mt Zion Masonic Lodge #6 and Shriners Arabia Temple #8.

Butch had a great sense of humor and liked to make you laugh. He loved to cook and talk about cooking. He loved to go to the beach and the mountains. He enjoyed watching westerns, crime shows like Perry Mason, CSI Miami and In the Heat of the Night and his favorite Swamp People. Lord knows he had a love for sweets; there wasn’t a dessert he didn’t like. His nieces and nephews were safe in his presence. Most of all, Butch loved his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Horace Garnigan, Clara Wise Garnigan Arnold, Jerry Sidney Davis, Ada Lou Johnson Davis, Annie Lou Dyer Davis, brothers Charles Sidney Garnigan and John Travis Garnigan, and grandson Steven Jarmal James.

Butch leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 44 years, Carol Henderson Garnigan, his children Traci S Linley (Anthony), William D Garnigan, Sr (Chenedra), Dwona N Alexander, and Shundi P Jones (Charles); step-children April L Carter, Amanda Carter James, and Wilson Carter, Jr. Grandchildren Ashley Linley Gonzales (Bernardo), Antonio Linley II (Anna Caren), Morgan Alexander (Alicia Lewis), Shanteria Thomas, Valerie A Jones, Jasmine Amaya (Anthony), William D “DJ” Garnigan, Jr, (Cristina), Alexis Garnigan and Charles “Chaz” Jones, Jr; step-grandchildren Tiffany Brown, Jarvis James and Shannon Carter, 17 great grandchildren.
