On Monday, October 28, 2024, God called His servant, Willie Knox Jr. to eternal peace and rest. Willie Knox, Jr. was born on October 8, 1951, in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Willie Knox, Sr. and Florine Woods Knox Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Deborah Ross, and brothers Frederick Knox and John Daniels. Willie, affectionately called “Billy” by all who knew and loved him married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jo Benham. From this union, they were blessed with three children: Reico Jeroid, Valenie Patrice, and infant the late Kimberly Diane.
Willie attended Summer Hill High School through his junior year and graduated from Cartersville High School with the class of 1969. He then enrolled at Florida A&M University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. While at FAMU, he became a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity incorporated and joined the ROTC. Upon graduation, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. Willie continued his education at Penn State where he received his Masters Degree in Business Administration. He retired as a Major in the US Army Reserve and began his civilian career at Roadway Express.
After his retirement from Yellow Roadway, Willie answered the call from the Lord to use his gifts and talents to minister encouragement on his personal Facebook page. He provided this through “Just a Thought” and later “Pray with Me Now” sharing God’s love 365 days a year for approximately 11 years. He ended each prayer with “Everything is Gonna Be Alright.” This was not a past time activity, but a God ordained ministry empowered by the Holy Spirit to reach souls for the Kingdom of God. Willie’s early Christian experience began at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, and he later joined Glory Harvester Church where he faithfully served in different capacities to support the ministry.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 54 years, Betty Jo Knox; son, Reico Knox; daughter, Valenie Wilkins; grandchildren, Kaci Wilkins, and Sidney Wilkins; sister, Laura Ethel Ware (Tony); aunt, Beulah Sloan; uncle, Albert Woods; and a host of relatives, loved ones, and friends.
