ERNEST PETERS, Jr.

June 11, 1934 ~ October 16, 2016 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Mr. Ernest Peters, 82, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11:00am at the Cole Street Baptist Church, 159 Cole Street NE, Marietta, GA 30060. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm at the Cole Street Baptist Church.

Ernest Peters, Jr. was born June 11, 1934 in Marietta, GA. to the late Beulah Redford and Ernest Peters, Sr. He was educated in the Cobb County School System, and graduated with the Lemon Street Class of 1953. In 1954 Deacon Ernest went to work , for what is now known as Kennestone Wellstar Hospital, as an Operating Room Technician. He was dedicated to his job and retired after 42 years of service.

He united with Cole Street Baptist Church at an early age and remained there for over fifty years. While serving at Cole Street Baptist Church he became ordained as a Deacon and was affectionately known by many as "Deacon Pete".

At Cole Street Missionary Baptist Church, he served many years on the Trustee Board, Deacon Board, and sang in the Choir. His favorite song was "I am on the Battlefield". His favorite part of that song was "I will serve Him till I die".... and that is what he did. Over the years of service to the church , he was recognized with many awards and letters of appreciation for his faithful service to Cole Street. Until a month ago, Deacon Peters was the custodian and ran the community food ministry three times a week. He was actively involved in everything that was going on at the church. Because of his community involvement, he was given the title of "Mayor of Cole Street". He was a member of the Cobb Prayer Band and the Fishers of Men Organization.

Deacon Peters was very instrumental in the Hugh Grogan Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinners that fed many people in Marietta and surrounding areas. In 2015, he was recognized for his outstanding efforts to serve the community. He diligently got out and solicited donations and volunteers for this event. He was amazed that Cole Street was the place that hosted such a community oriented affair.

We thank him for his faithfulness, but we know on the appointed day, we must all leave this world and go and be with the Lord.

Deacon Peters leaves to cherish his memory; nephew, Mr. Ronnie Peters, niece Shelia High and her two sons, Gerard and Gerald Tanner, other relatives, his church family, and a host of friends.
