Mr. Robert Emory Henderson Jr., 63, of Cartersville, GA. passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 11:00am at the Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 7:00pm - 8:00pm at the Mack Eppinger and Sons Funeral Home.

   Robert Emory Henderson, Jr. was born on May 29, 1953 in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Robert Emory and Reba B. Henderson, Sr.  On Tuesday morning, September 27, 2016, God called him home to his eternal resting place. 

     Robert joined Saint Luke AME Church at an early age and was an active participant in the Young People’s Division.  He was well known as “Robby” and “Rob” throughout the community.  Robert attended the historic Summer Hill Elementary School and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America.  He enjoyed football, basketball, fishing, hunting and playing the trumpet.  He was an academically successful student and Science was his favorite subject.  He was a 1971 graduate of Cartersville High School.

     After graduation Robert acquired college credits and enlisted in several branches of the military: Air Force – February 1972 in Detroit, Michigan as a Communications Radio Operator until he separated as a Sergeant (E4) with honorable discharge in November 1974; Air National Guard – December 1974 to June 1975 as Sergeant (E4) with honorable discharge; and Army – June 1975 as a Private separating October 1976 with honorable discharge.  

     During his professional career employment included: Scientific Atlantic, Faith Electric, Ford Motor Company, Great Lakes Steel, Lockheed Martin, Swift Transportation and the JB Hunt Company.  Robert had a positive outlook on life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, just having fun.  He liked riding his motorcycle and for years was a member of the Detroit Gentleman’s Motorcycle Club.  While he enjoyed working on computers his main hobby was repairing, building and selling antique cars, trucks and motorcycles.  He spent many joyful hours mentoring and teaching Triviuse (great nephew) about building and repairing cars.

     Robert was preceded in death by two sisters, Sharon Yvonne Henderson and Maggie Reba Henderson Knox; leaving to cherish his memory are two loving children, Karen Henderson-Thomas (Lawrence), and Robert E. Henderson, III (Katrina); three grandchildren, Xavier Henderson, Emory Henderson and Lauren Thomas; siblings, Virginia H. Harris (Ralph), Roxanne H. Coxton, Stephen L. Henderson, Sr., and Tilla L. Henderson; nieces and nephews, Grady Beasley, III, Reba Knox (Erik),  Stephanie Majied (Tim), Stephen L. Henderson, Jr., Tanisha Michelle Henderson Moore (Corey), Valerie Y. Harris, Veronica Y. H. Woods (Jonathan), Lawrence Brown, Jr., Robert Brown, Arjuna Hunter-Bey, Isaiah Hunter-Bey, and Chantel Hunter-Bey;  first wife, Eretta Fairley; second wife, Rhonda Sue Henderson; special friend, Leola Breckenridge; his significant other, Gayla Knight; and a host of other great nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
